The interview process

The interview process

Careful consideration will be given to your application, and we might contact you for further information or proof of qualifications at this point.

If you meet our eligibility requirements, you will be shortlisted and invited to one of our interview days. These take place at Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form (click here for directions using Google Maps).

A typical interview day will start at 9.15am and will usually consist of the following schedule:

Administrative procedures

You will be asked to bring with you both the originals and a photocopy of documents such as GCSE English and Maths certificates and proof of identity. This will be followed by an introduction by Mid Essex ITT staff.

Observation of a Filmed Lesson & Written Task

This task must be written on the day, in your own handwriting. You will be asked to comment on aspects of teaching in the video you watch. We are looking for the ability to communicate in good written English with correct grammar and spelling.

Group Discussions

Each group will be led by a member of the Mid Essex ITT Leadership Team. You will be assessed on your ability to engage in discussion and analyse some of the issues raised by your classroom observation.

Individual Presentations

As part of the selection process, you will be required to deliver a five-minute mini-lesson to a small group (around six) of Year 8 students. The presentation should focus on an element of your specialist subject that you feel passionate about and should last around five minutes.

Individual Interviews

The individual interviews will last around 45 minutes and will be conducted by members of the Mid Essex ITT Leadership Team on the panel. You will be free to leave after your interview and we aim to let you know the outcome of the day within two working days. Successful candidates will then be invited to attend our three-day induction held early in July.

Please note: all tasks are designed to assess your suitability for teacher training. You should always aim to be yourself - there are no right or wrong answers - we want to make sure that you are right for us and vice-versa.

Mid Essex ITT is committed to safer recruitment. All applicants will be subject to to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) criminal records check, including a check of the children’s barred list and Employer Access Online.
