Interview and Assessment days
Careful consideration will be given to your application during the shortlisting process. At this point, we might contact you for further information or proof of qualifications.
If you meet our eligibility requirements, you will be shortlisted and invited to one of our interview and assessment days. These are always in person and take place at Notley High School and Sixth Form (click here for directions using Google Maps).
We are very proud of our tried-and-tested in-person assessment days and have found they are the best way to recruit the best quality trainees. Our variety of tasks provides you with multiple opportunities to show your best self, and enables us to accurately assess your potential for teacher training.
Just as importantly, you get to know some of the Mid Essex ITT team, and get a feel of what training with us will be like.
We receive constant positive feedback received from candidates, who say they find the interview and assessment days: "welcoming", "exciting", "fast-paced", and "well-planned and structured". Many say they particularly enjoy meeting potential fellow trainees in person, as well as members of the Mid Essex team,
A typical interview day will start at 9am and will usually consist of the following schedule:
Administrative procedures
You will be asked to bring with you the originals of a number of documents, including your Degree and GCSE English and Maths certificates, as well as proof of identity. This will be followed by an introduction by one of the Mid Essex ITT leadership team. You will have the chance to ask questions.
Observation of a Filmed Lesson & Written Task
This task must be written on the day, in your own handwriting. You will be asked to comment on aspects of teaching in the video you watch. We are looking for the ability to write clearly, accurately, legibly, and coherently using correct spelling and punctuation.
Group Discussions
Each group will be led by a member of the Mid Essex ITT Leadership Team. You will be assessed on your ability to engage in discussion with a group, your analysis of the issues raised by your lesson observation, and that you communicate these with clarity.
Individual Presentations
As part of the selection process, you will be required to deliver a five-minute mini-lesson to a small group (around six) of Year 8 students. The presentation should focus on an element of your specialist subject that you feel passionate about and should last around five minutes.
Individual Interviews
The individual interviews will last around 45 minutes and will be conducted by members of the Mid Essex ITT Leadership Team on the panel. You will be free to leave after your interview and we aim to let you know the outcome of the day within two working days. Successful candidates will then be invited to attend our two induction days held early in July. View our Recruitment and Application timeline here for a clear guide to each step.
Note that all tasks are designed to assess your suitability for teacher training. You should always aim to be yourself - there are no right or wrong answers - we want to make sure that you are right for us and vice-versa.
Mid Essex ITT is committed to safer recruitment. All applicants will be subject to to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) criminal records check, including a check of the children’s barred list and Employer Access Online.
