Which subject did you train in? English
Which school/s did you train in? Chelmer Valley High School and Ramsey Academy
Can you tell us a bit more about what you are doing now? I managed to get a role at my training school which is Chelmer Valley High School and I am still working here! I am KS3 lead and Second in Department inEnglish. I am also a Year 12 tutor.
I am also honoured to work with Mid Essex as a mentor to trainee teachers and I like how I have come full circle. Casey Wicks was my mentor and Ihonestly wouldn't be the teacher I am today if it wasn't for her undying support and belief in me. This is what has made me want to be a mentor myself.
Thinking back to your teacher training with Mid Essex ITT, can you share with us about a highlight, fond memory or funny story? I am luckily enough to have made a friend for life whilst training, Gina Romano, who is also still in teaching. We were put into the same placement at CVHSand it really helped to have someone who was going through the same as me. She was a life saver and constant support. A fond memory was making itthrough the difficult training year and being able to celebrate together at our graduation.
What was teacher training like when you trained? What were the buzzwords, latest theories or popular pedagogy? Buzzword was definelty 'Poundland Pedagogy' and we had to go and raid the stores to see what items we could use in a lesson.
Thinking back to your teacher training, what was your key takeaway from Mid Essex ITT? Mid Essex was there to support each and every one of us when we needed it the most. Being honest, teacher training is hard and without the support ofMid Essex, I'm not sure I would have stuck with it.
Thinking back to your teacher training, is there anyone who supported you whom you would like to recognise or thank? I would like to thank Casey Wicks for being the best mentor I could ever ask for as a trainee. I would also like to thank Holly Sutton for answering myconstant emails when I am worrying about a trainee and being supportive in whatever I need.
